5.2 Registering and Managing Patients

Getting Started with Smile Analysis

  1. Open the Smile Analysis page

    • Click "Smile Analysis" or "Smile Analyzer" in the main menu
  2. Select an organization

    • Choose from the list of clinics/organizations you manage
    • If you manage multiple clinics, patients are managed separately for each

Registering a Patient

  1. Patient list page

    • Go to the "Patients" tab of the selected organization
  2. Add a new patient

    • Click the "Add Patient" button
  3. Enter patient information

    Basic information (required):

    • Name: Patient's full name
    • Chart number: Auto-generated (YYYYMM-NNN format)
      • Example: 202412-001 (the 1st patient of December 2024)

    Personal information (optional):

    • Date of birth: Enter with the date picker
    • Gender: Male / Female / Other
    • Phone number: Contact number (e.g., 010-1234-5678)
    • Email: Email address
    • Address: Home address

    Treatment information (optional):

    • First visit date: Date of the first visit
    • Last visit date: Date of the most recent visit (can be updated automatically)
    • Chief Complaint: Main symptoms reported by the patient
      • Examples: "Protruding front teeth", "Irregular teeth", "Gums showing when smiling"
    • Medical history: Existing conditions, medications
    • Current treatment: Treatment currently in progress
    • Treatment notes: Treatment plans and memos
    • Allergies: Allergy information
    • Medications: Medications currently being taken

    Emergency contact (optional):

    • Emergency contact person: Guardian's name
    • Emergency phone: Guardian's contact number
  4. Save

    • Click the "Save" button to register the patient
    • A chart number is assigned automatically

Managing the Patient List

  1. Search

    • Search by patient name or chart number
    • Search results are displayed in real time
  2. Patient card information

    • Chart number
    • Name, gender, date of birth
    • First visit and last visit dates
    • Chief complaint
  3. Selecting a patient

    • Click a patient card to go to the detailed analysis page

5.3 Uploading and Editing Images

Preparing Images for Analysis

Required image types:

  1. Frontal face photo (Face Front Open)
    • Taken from the front, with a natural smile
  2. Occlusal photo (Bite/Occlusal)
    • Tooth arrangement viewed from above
  3. Maxilla photo (Maxilla)
    • Close-up of the maxillary teeth only
  4. Mandible photo (Mandible)
    • Close-up of the mandibular teeth only

Uploading Images

  1. Patient detail page

    • Select a patient from the patient list
    • The analysis page opens
  2. Upload images

    • Use the "Upload Image" button or the drag-and-drop area
    • Supported formats: JPG, PNG, HEIC
    • Recommended size: at least 1000x1000px
  3. Specify the image type

    • Choose the image type when uploading:
      • Base: Frontal face
      • Bite: Occlusal view
      • Maxilla: Maxillary dentition
      • Mandible: Mandibular dentition

Editing Images

  1. Enter edit mode

    • Click the "Edit" button on an uploaded image
  2. Editing features

    • Crop: Select only the area you need
    • Rotate: In 90-degree steps or free rotation
    • Brightness adjustment: Brightness, contrast, saturation
    • Zoom in/out: Check fine details
  3. Save

    • Save your edits with the "Save" button
    • The original is kept separately

5.4 Multi-Layer Image Alignment (Layer Alignment)

Overlay images from multiple angles to perform accurate analysis.

How to Use the Alignment Tool

  1. Activate alignment mode

    • Click the "Image Alignment" or "Layer Alignment" button on the analysis page
  2. Select layers

    • Base layer: The fixed base image
    • Adjustment layer: The image to move (Bite, Maxilla, Mandible)
  3. Adjust the transformation

    Translate:

    • X-axis: Move left/right
    • Y-axis: Move up/down
    • Adjust with the slider or by entering numbers

    Scale:

    • Enlarge/shrink the image (0.5 – 2.0)
    • Match the size to the base layer

    Rotation:

    • Range of -180° to 180°
    • Fine-tune the angle

    Opacity:

    • 0% (transparent) – 100% (opaque)
    • Useful when comparing overlapping areas
  4. Confirm the alignment

    • Match reference points (e.g., dental midline, center of the nose)
    • Toggle layers on and off alternately to verify
  5. Save

    • Save the transformation settings with the "Save Alignment" button
    • They are applied automatically to subsequent analyses

5.5 Performing an Analysis

Analysis Process

  1. Select an analysis type

    • Choose the analysis type to perform on the analysis page
    • Example: "Facial-Dental Symmetry Analysis"
  2. Select an image

    • Choose an image suitable for that analysis
    • The system suggests the recommended image type
  3. Mark reference points

    • When the analysis modal opens, place reference points on the image
    • The number and location of required points differ for each analysis type
  4. Automatic measurement

    • Once all reference points are placed, calculations run automatically
    • Distances, angles, ratios, and more are computed
  5. Review the results

    • Measurement results are displayed as an overlay on the image
    • Numeric data is provided as well
  6. Save

    • Save the results to the patient record with the "Save Analysis" button
    • The date and time are recorded automatically

Main Analysis Types in Detail

1. Facial-Dental Symmetry Analysis (Face Front Open Analysis)

Purpose: Evaluate the left-right symmetry of the face and dentition

Required image: Frontal face photo (smiling)

Reference points:

  • Facial midline
  • Center of both eyes
  • Center of the nose
  • Center of the lips
  • Maxillary dental midline
  • Mandibular dental midline

Measurements:

  • Midline coincidence
  • Degree of left-right asymmetry
  • Midline deviation

Interpreting results:

  • Normal: deviation within 2mm
  • Mild asymmetry: 2-4mm
  • Moderate asymmetry: 4mm or more

2. Arch Analysis

Purpose: Analyze the tooth arrangement of the maxilla or mandible

Required image: Occlusal photo (maxilla or mandible)

Reference points:

  • Most anterior point of the anterior teeth
  • Canine cusp tips
  • Mesiobuccal cusps of the first molars
  • Left-right symmetric points

Measurements:

  • Arch Width
  • Arch Length
  • Arch form classification (normal, narrow, wide)

Using the results:

  • Planning orthodontic treatment
  • Deciding on extraction vs. non-extraction
  • Assessing the need for expansion appliances

3. Tooth Size Ratio Analysis (Tooth Ratio Analysis)

Purpose: Measure the width-to-height ratio of individual teeth

Required image: Frontal photo of the teeth

Reference points:

  • Incisal Edge of each tooth
  • Cervical Line
  • Mesial and distal contact points

Measurements:

  • Tooth width (Mesiodistal Width)
  • Tooth height (Crown Height)
  • Width/Height Ratio

Normal ratios (maxillary anterior teeth):

  • Central incisor: 0.75 - 0.85
  • Lateral incisor: 0.70 - 0.80
  • Canine: 0.70 - 0.80

Using the results:

  • Aesthetic treatment planning
  • Resin or laminate design
  • Tooth shape modification

4. Tooth Axis Analysis

Purpose: Measure the long axis and inclination of teeth

Required image: Frontal photo of the teeth

Reference points:

  • Center of the incisal edge
  • Root apex (or center of the cervical area)
  • Reference line (vertical line)

Measurements:

  • Axial Inclination
  • Inclination relative to the vertical line
  • Parallelism between teeth

Normal range:

  • Maxillary central incisor: slight distal inclination (2-5°)
  • Mandibular central incisor: vertical (0-2°)

Using the results:

  • Torque adjustment during orthodontic treatment
  • Deciding tooth movement direction
  • Planning the final tooth arrangement

5. Tooth Shape Analysis

Purpose: Classify the morphological characteristics of teeth

Required image: Close-up photo of the teeth

Classification criteria:

  • Square: Angular form, masculine
  • Ovoid: Rounded form, neutral
  • Tapered: Pointed form, feminine

Measurements:

  • Incisal edge form
  • Mesiodistal contour
  • Buccolingual prominence

Using the results:

  • Harmony with the patient's face shape
  • Designs suited to gender and age
  • Reference for prosthetic fabrication

5.7 Cautions and Tips

Photography Tips

  1. Lighting

    • Use even lighting
    • Minimize shadows
    • Avoid direct flash
  2. Angle

    • Frontal: camera at the patient's eye level
    • Occlusal: shoot completely perpendicular
    • Distance: keep a consistent distance (about 30-50cm)
  3. Patient preparation

    • Comfortable posture
    • Natural expression
    • Use a lip retractor (for intraoral photos)

Improving Analysis Accuracy

  1. Use high-resolution images

    • At least 1000x1000px
    • Sharp focus
  2. Mark reference points precisely

    • Zoom in and click the exact position
    • Be familiar with anatomical landmarks
  3. Multiple measurements

    • Perform the same analysis several times
    • Use the average value

Cautions

  1. Privacy protection

    • Store patient photos securely
    • Take care to prevent leaks
    • Consent forms are required
  2. Medical judgment

    • Analysis results are reference material
    • The final diagnosis is the doctor's judgment
    • Do not make decisions based on numbers alone
  3. Regular updates

5.8 Visual Improvements (Updated 2026-05)

Colors across the smile analysis screens have been unified with the design system's semantic tokens. Accent colors in manual screenshots may differ from the actual screens, but their meaning remains the same.

  • Consistent status colors: In progress/normal uses info and success tokens (blue family), warnings use caution tokens (orange/yellow family), and delete/error uses danger tokens (red family).
  • Dark mode support: All cards, tables, and modals use semantic tokens, so their tone switches automatically in OS dark mode.
  • Focus/hover: Input field focus rings use ring-ring, and button hovers align to a 90% tone of the same hue, reducing visual strain.
  • Modal backdrop: The backdrop of all analysis modals is unified to bg-foreground/50, providing consistent brightness contrast in both light and dark modes.
